About Department 472 - Reactor Plant Planning Yard
The Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) provides Engineering, Design, and Logistics life cycle support to all fleet submarines, the Moored Training Ships, and the S8G Prototype. The organization maintains technical expertise for nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant systems and equipment. Our mission is to provide the US Navy five-star support that increases submarine Operational Availability and Capability.
Role Overview
The D472 Project Office is seeking an engineer to provide engineering, design, and logistics support and maintain technical expertise for nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant systems and equipment. As part of the RPPY, Moored Training Ship Support Yard (MTSSY), and S8G Prototype Design Agent, this position requires resolution of a wide variety of technical challenges, and concise coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
The D472 Project Office is the primary engineering activity responsible for projects such as:
- Overhauling and testing mechanical components used on multiple nuclear submarine training platforms through technical oversight with component vendors and the Electric Boat Shipyard.
- Coordinating all aspects of multi-discipline engineering projects including:
- Overall technical quality
- Working in a team environment
- Maintaining schedules and budgets
- Developing and implementing critical component and rotatable pool programs for Moored Training Ships (MTS) as well as the S8G Prototype.
- Managing components stored at the Electric Boat Quonset Point facility by maintaining inventory and prioritizing refurbishments.
Additionally, engineers will collaborate with various Electric Boat departments as well as site offices at the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Charleston and the S8G Prototype. Occasional travel to the Electric Boat Quonset Point Facility
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
- 2-9 years of post-graduate engineering experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance through the DoD
- Experience with mechanical component design and maintenance
- Experience working with equipment vendors
- Experience in project management or as a project lead
- US Navy experience in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills
- A highly motivated problem solver who is well organized with strong project management skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment
