Summary

The Vehicle Dynamics Engineer is responsible for ensuring Bilstein’s passive and electronic dampers meet all customer requirements for dynamic performance, durability and manufacturability from project conception through EOL. The engineer will develop market expertise in passive and electronic damping, vehicle dynamics, and market trends, and provide this expertise to internal teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates vehicle testing events with customers on domestic and international proving grounds (Ride Events).
  • Available for up to 50% travel to customer proving grounds.
  • Prepares Bilstein components, resources, and equipment for each ride event in coordination with internal and external project teams.
  • Documents all activities during ride events, including vehicle setups, damper data, valve code information, customer feedback, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Makes expertise in subjective and objective vehicle dynamics analysis, identifies gaps, and translates them into hardware/software changes.
  • Reports on all ride event activities after conclusion and coordinates with future event needs.
  • Organizes damper builds for short‑term capability studies and reports results to internal and external project teams.
  • Ensures damper characteristics adhere to both internal Bilstein standards and individual customer specifications.
  • Aligns with system integration department on parameter tuning strategies and specifications for semi‑active damper systems.
  • Provides T&I department with vehicle dynamics requirements, identifies existing performance gaps, and anticipates market requirements for new passive and semi‑active damper systems.
  • Collects and analyzes on‑vehicle ride data for objective evaluation.
  • Leads problem‑solving activities related to damper settings affecting vehicle dynamic behavior and issues while industrializing proposed settings.
  • Drives communication between customer vehicle staff and Bilstein project team regarding vehicle dynamic topics.
  • Builds close working relationships with customer contacts to provide technical solutions during early vehicle development stages.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 3–5+ years’ experience in vehicle dynamics, focusing on chassis systems.
  • Hydraulic and software damper tuning experience, including valving changes to tunable dampers.
  • Data collection experience (e.g., DEWESoft, HEADAcoustics).
  • Experience in vehicle development life cycles, transition from prototype to production.
  • Statistical analysis experience, including capability studies.
  • Valid US driver’s license with an exceptional safety record.
  • Valid US passport and ability to travel internationally.
  • Extensive experience interpreting engineering drawings and models.
  • Knowledge of measurement technology: load cells, calipers, height gauges, displacement sensors.
  • Familiarity with damper testing machines and software (e.g., Roehrig, CTW, MTS, LabA7, Gröpler).
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Outlook, Power

    BI, Power Apps).
Education
  • 4‑year degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
