Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Human Resources Manager to support the corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: hourly recruiting, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Resolve general Associate Relations issue including conducting employee relations investigations and fact finding; administer company's correction action process in partnership with HR Mgr; assist with unemployment claim information and unemployment hearings
  • Work with the Employee Representatives (Worker’s Counsel and/or Union) to resolve issues and based on a good understanding of the Collective Agreement.
  • File and manage workers’ compensation claims in compliance with federal, state, and carrier requirements
  • Monitor workers’ compensation cases for compliance with company policy and legal regulations
  • Serve as primary point of contact for employees, managers, insurance carriers, and medical providers regarding workers’ compensation matters
  • Conduct thorough investigations into employee relations issues and partner with HR Manager on appropriate actions.
  • Generating official internal documents such as offer letters, appointment letters, pay change forms, and disciplinary actions.
  • Supporting HR Coordinator with creating onboarding plans and educating newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures, and regulations.
  • Auditing physical and digital files for employees and their documents and records.
  • Creating employee engagement plans, getting necessary budget approval and initiating activities.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.
  • Plan and coordinate company events such as service awards, retirement lunches, scholarship dinners and other company events.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 report annually; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to management.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of employee relations cases.
  • Completes special projects by clarifying project objective; setting timetables and schedules; conducting research; developing and organizing information; fulfilling transactions.
  • Manages client expectations by communicating project status and issues; resolving concerns; analyzing time and cost issues; preparing reports.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or Organization Development
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in HR policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations.
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong analytical skills, maturity, and "emotional intelligence".
