What Would You Do As a Case ManagerAs a Case Manager, you will closely monitor the progress of NGRI individuals throughout their admission to state hospitals. Through ongoing case management, you will collaborate with the legal system and mental health providers to develop appropriate discharge plans that support recovery and successful reintegration into the community.
Your responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments through interviews with clients, family members, and other care providers, as well as developing individualized treatment and service plans. You will advocate for client needs by coordinating with multiple stakeholders, assist clients in obtaining essential resources such as housing, food, and medical services, and facilitate transitions and relocations as needed. You will regularly monitor client progress and behaviors, provide supportive counseling, and deliver crisis intervention when necessary.
Additionally, you will participate in discharge evaluations, complete required case management documentation, and consult with interdisciplinary professionals on complex behavioral cases to ensure each client receives compassionate, coordinated, and effective care.
To excel as a Case Manager NGRI, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or Counseling.
- One (1) year experience in case management services working with adults living with a mental illness.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License.
Additionally, candidates should possess thorough knowledge of interviewing techniques and supportive counseling principles, alongside an understanding of social casework principles. Familiarity with community resources and programs for developmental disabilities, mental health, and substance use disorders is crucial, as is knowledge of the symptoms and behavioral characteristics of the population served. Most importantly, candidates should have the ability to establish rapport with clients and their families, alongside evaluating behavioral observations.
