Qualifications
  • Applicants must be able to show proof of a satisfactory criminal background check as defined by state standards.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of building cleaning and facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings, maintaining assigned work areas including kitchens, cafes, classrooms, bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, and other workrooms within the school and the building's exterior and grounds.
  • Monitor and ensure building cleanliness and security; perform preventative, minor, and exterior maintenance; receive, stock, and deliver supplies.
  • Clean and sweep hallways and stairwells, classrooms, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums and other rooms; empty waste baskets up to 50 lbs; dust furniture, clean doors, windows, trim, and remove stains from floors, walls, and glass.
  • Strip old wax from and apply new wax to floors using hand and power tools; wet mop and buff floors.
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain restrooms, locker rooms and/or swimming pools; replace bathroom supplies such as soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper.
  • Replace light bulbs; make simple minor adjustments and repairs to plumbing, electrical, and other building fixtures; check heating and ventilation of building and replace filters in heating and ventilating units.
  • Wash windows, display cases, glass doors, and mirrors; clean and polish stainless steel and other metal work; clean and maintain tile, carpet, wood and other floor surfaces and baseboards.
  • Clean and maintain a variety of other surfaces such as replace ceiling tiles, wash walls, marker boards, counter, sinks and table tops, lockers.
  • Monitor buildings and grounds, report hazardous or other defective conditions.
  • Pup up trash from grounds, empty exterior waste containers and adjacent areas.
  • Remove snow and ice and salt sidewalks to maintain and ensure safety of exterior walkways; remove and dispose of trash from school grounds and exterior trash containers.
  • Respond to emergency furnishing, equipment, and facility damages by cleaning bathroom and sick‑child accidents, repairing damaged furniture, assembling furniture or equipment, removing graffiti within and on building's exterior, and repairing vandalized equipment.
  • Participate in set‑up and tear‑down of seating and tables used for administrative meetings, after‑school events, evening and weekend activities including athletic events, concerts, plays, community education classes, dances, guest speakers.
  • Perform regular inspections necessary for basic preventative maintenance; perform minor maintenance such as painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry/structural, HVAC, and other building maintenance work.
  • Perform maintenance, cleaning, and sanitation of special building facilities such as swimming pools, deck areas, and related operational systems; perform daily testing of pool water and maintain appropriate pool pH balances; conduct safety checks of pool area; complete State of Michigan Health Department forms as necessary.
  • Hold Certified Pool Operator license or aquatic facility license if 3rd shift custodian at the High School.
  • Secure building when facilities are not in use, checking unlocked doors and windows, reporting unauthorized occupants, turning off lights.
  • Respond to notification of burglar and/or fire alarms from District approved Security companies.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
