An experienced Oncology Nurse who has moved into management and can "sell" the department.

Responsible To : CEO / Medical Director  together with Director Radiation Oncology, Chief Medical Physicist and
Clinic Manager

Establish a sustainable, effective and efficient operational Cancer Centre for the Hospital. Identify and implement best practice models of contemporary care in the management of cancer to ensure the Hospital delivers an integrated service that reflects national and international trends.

 Oversee and manage the integration of existing medical oncology, haematology and palliative care services with radiation oncology within the Cancer Centre.
 In conjunction with the Cancer Centre project officer, coordinate and lead clinical service development for the Cancer Centre to ensure the delivery of integrated service models of care for patients
 Provide onsite support for stakeholders during building works to commissioning completion.
 In consultation with the existing Hospital Cancer Services staff and Cancer Centre senior staff, lead, facilitate and manage the change process (including conflict resolution) associated with operationalsing the new facilities.
 Develop and maintain positive relationships with service providers using the Cancer Centre to ensure an ongoing network of communication is established and
maintained that facilitates coordination of activity and access to the Cancer Centre.
 In consultation with line managers within the Cancer Centre identify, develop and implement processes and work practices that integrate information systems
ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedure and support the day to
day operations of the facility and accreditation requirements.
 Establish and maintain effective and regular communication mechanisms with key stakeholders to support the management of operational and organisational issues arising from the commissioning of the Cancer Centre to support a
smooth transition.
 Model and actively promote workplace behaviour that reflects hospital Values, Code of Conduct to provide excellence in care for all patients/clients.
 In consultation with senior Cancer Centre staff, develop and provide appropriate orientation to the service for staff new to the facility.
 Ensure all vacant positions within the Cancer Centre are recruited to in accordance with staffing establishments, budget and clinical requirements.
 Ensure all staff selections are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Policy Directive and Health selection processes.
 In consultation with line managers and team leaders develop and implement
safe work practices and operating procedures in accordance with legislative and policy requirements Provide progress reports as required.
 Oversee risk management processes for the Cancer Centre to ensure all incidents are reported and managed in accordance policies.


 Facilitate the implementation of a best practice service model that integrates
the existing services with a new service as part of the Cancer Centre.
 Championing the development of processes, procedures and staffing that will ensure safe, quality care in the new centre.


 Ensure all relevant information is disseminated in a timely manner to key
 Attend and convene ad-hoc communication meetings as required.
 Attend Medical and Radiation Oncology Stream Meetings
 Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in relation to all project
 Develop staff newsletters or other forms of communication at targeted
populations relevant to the development of the new facilities.


• Relevant tertiary qualification in Nursing, Allied Health, Management or other
• Demonstrated ability to apply project management skills and expertise in the
management of large scale projects preferably in the commissioning or
refurbishing of a unit/service
• Demonstrated skills in financial and change management applied in the
management of major projects focussed on service delivery
• Demonstrated creative thinking applied to solving diverse and novel problems.
• Demonstrated application of influencing and negotiating skills to support cooperation amongst diverse stakeholders with conflicting priorities and objectives.
• Demonstrated capacity to use initiative and act proactively to develop solutions to ongoing challenges in situations involving complex judgments
• Current Drivers Licence
Position Requirements
Bachelor,   3 to 4 Years work experience
