Position Overview
We are seeking an Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Manager for the Lansing, MI sites. The role ensures compliance of all facilities with EH&S regulations and RTX requirements.
Responsibilities- Leads a team of safety professionals and waste technicians.
- Acts as a partner in EH&S by formulating and administering EH&S plans and procedures including EH&S Program Management.
- Responsible for multiple EH&S specialties.
- May perform tasks associated with Health / Safety and Environmental / Compliance.
- Coordinates with business partners for EH&S concerns regarding facilities and employee practices. May have responsibility for medical at the site.
- Organizes and maintains EH&S policies to achieve and maintain compliance with regulations.
- Manages relationships across other specialized departments to achieve and maintain compliance with EH&S regulations and RTX requirements.
- Owns the execution of the long-term strategy (e.g., more than 3 years) and the operational direction, typically for a business of modest size and scope, or manages a team of primarily experienced professionals.
- Focuses on tactical and operational plans with short- to medium-term focus (e.g., less than 1 year to 1-2 years).
- Influences others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
- Implements initiatives that drive continuous improvements and achieve and maintain compliance with policies and procedures.
- Conducts in-depth analysis of the portfolio for environmental opportunities to determine environmental compliance.
- Collaborates with sites to define controls for EHS program to maintain the policies.
- Assesses EHS impacts and develops/implements programs to reduce risk as well as achieve and maintain compliance. Manages environmental permits and reporting criteria.
- Establishes and tracks plans to achieve and maintain compliance and to reduce risk.
- Leads audits of the implementation of the EHS management system at the different factories and service locations.
- Leads the communication of global EHS initiatives and comprehensive performance to EHS professionals and upper-level management.
- Bachelor’s degree with 12 years’ relative EH&S experience required, or an advanced degree with 10+ years’ relative EH&S experience required.
- Management experience in a union environment.
- Capable of working with a wide range of people from the site leader to shop floor and of providing team leadership when required to meet highly aggressive goals.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of factory equipment, manufacturing, field safety and EH&S management systems.
- Adaptable to fast‑paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy in the organization.
- Continuous Improvement experience such as CORE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc. strongly desired.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated knowledge in EH&S regulatory and management systems, including compliance with all local, state and federal regulations regarding air, storm water, wastewater and hazardous waste.
- Additional certifications such as CSP, CIH, P.E. or CHMM are strongly preferred.
Salary range: 157,200 USD – 298,800 USD.
