Responsibilities

  • Performs general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures.
  • Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Obtains and documents health history, chief complaint, vital signs, health risk factors, and assesses disease condition.
  • Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response; refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
  • Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms and automated systems.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
  • Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Current/valid Registered Nurse license from the state licensing board.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • One (1) year of related experience in a clinic or acute hospital nursing setting.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
  • Additional skills and attributes required:
    • Regular attendance and ability to work on site during scheduled shifts.
    • Knowledge of nursing processes, health care systems, structure, and community resources; understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies; familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.
    • Effective communication skills with staff and patients.
    • Sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
    • Positive, caring attitude toward patients.
    • Strong work ethic and high level of professionalism.
    • Critical thinking skills within scope of practice, population health management, and improvement of patient outcomes.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent interaction with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication and auditory comprehension, especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity needed to manipulate complex equipment and perform frequent computer use and typing.
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Requires walking, ambulating patients, and carrying supplies; includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment and navigating crowded, busy rooms.
  • May need to stand for extended periods in a stationary position.
