The Claims Assistant reports to the AVP of Claims Support in Houston and provides robust clerical support to a nationwide team of Claims Adjusters, ensuring timely, accurate claims management and delivering exceptional customer service to brokers, claimants, and insureds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clerical support under general supervision, utilizing established procedures for moderate‑complexity assignments to a nationwide claims team.
  • Assist adjusters in accurate claims management: enter stop/cancel/release of checks, process cash receipts, perform work check exceptions, and complete complex state forms.
  • Maintain claims data integrity by inputting policy information for new and existing claims.
  • Communicate extensively with customers by answering calls, processing electronic mail, preparing written correspondence, and handling outgoing mail.
  • Review claims for payment, documenting issue dates and check numbers, and research financials to verify payment information.
  • Track outstanding checks across various claim systems, determine payment status or return, prepare and send letters as needed, and document findings in FSITrack.
  • Accurately record hours worked, submit timesheets per company policy, and work overtime as business needs dictate.
Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of Service Center policies, systems, and procedures, with a strong customer‑service focus.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with at least 3 years of relevant work experience, or vocational/technical education with at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of how an insurance company operates and its profitability impact.
  • Highly accurate typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
  • Clear, professional telephone communication skills.
  • Fluent reading, speaking, and writing in English. Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and effective time‑management skills for prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Team player who communicates and collaborates with peers to achieve common goals.
  • Strong sense of accountability, pride in work quality, and focus on execution.
  • Problem‑solution orientation, global mindset, flexibility, and adaptability to rapid change.
  • Proactive communication, active listening, self‑awareness, curiosity, and willingness to gather input from others.
  • Ability to build rapport and foster collaborative, productive relationships with business partners and peers.
  • Demonstrated integrity, courage, intellectual curiosity, and independent thinking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.
  • Commitment to continuous self‑development and ongoing education.
  • Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree or recognized industry designations.
Benefits
  • Competitive base compensation and performance‑based incentives.
  • Comprehensive benefits program: health, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
