POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Sr. Designer at LJA Transportation
, you will be responsible for providing drafting support for traffic engineering projects using CAD software and requires strong technical accuracy, attention to detail, and familiarity with TxDOT standards.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Developing technical signal design plans that meet TxDOT requirements.
  • Producing CAD deliverables for traffic signals, ITS, illumination, utilities, and related disciplines.
  • Preparing elevation sheets, voltage drop calculations, and quantity summaries.
  • Supporting engineers with design calculations and cost estimates.
  • Collaborating with team members to solve problems and meet client needs.
  • Produce high‑quality CAD drawings for traffic signal design, ITS, illumination, signing, and pavement marking projects.
  • Create and modify maps, plan and profile sheets, and CAD exhibits.
  • Complete redline markups and work from sketches, notes, and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain project schedules and provide progress updates.
  • Stay current with traffic signal design standards and drafting procedures.
  • Support engineers with design calculations, quantity take‑offs, and preparation of summary tables.
  • Review standard construction materials and apply appropriate specifications.
  • Apply general mathematical skills to standard design formulas.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or technical school training in CAD, or equivalent experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of CAD experience and 0–2 years of Micro Station ORD experience.
  • Strong familiarity with TxDOT and Houston‑area traffic signal design criteria.
  • Experience with Agi
    32, SignCAD/Guide

    SIGN, and related tools.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to shifting project needs.
