As our Senior Accountant, for ENGIE Energy Marketing North America, you will be responsible for preparing the accounting entries necessary for monthly financial close, including the mark to market of various energy commodities. You will be reporting to the Accounting Director.
Responsibilities- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies between the energy trading risk system and the general ledger
- Support trade settlement activities through sub‑ledger and cash reconciliations
- Prepare intercompany billings and monitor intercompany receivables and payables
- Prepare monthly accruals of settled energy transactions for the activity of affiliate companies
- Accurately prepare the monthly mark‑to‑market accounting and physical gas storage entries and work with the Trade Settlements team and commercial groups to resolve any variances between the risk system and general ledger
- Assist with populating the consolidation system, including the preparation of monthly consolidated financial reporting packages
- Review and analyze balance sheet accounts and prepare and maintain account reconciliations
- Reconcile gas storage balances to the pipeline statements
- Reconcile and process settlement activity for multiple commodities, including adjustments to AR/AP sub‑ledgers as required by the Trade Settlements team
- Reconcile and record prior period adjustments
- Ensure cash activity is accurately recorded so counter party balances are properly reflected
- Compare estimates to actuals and analyze and explain variances
- Prepare monthly sales by state monthly report for the Tax Department
- Assist with the coordination of external and internal audits and work with other team members to ensure audit requests are completed in a timely manner; and assist with special projects as needed
- Maintain controls and documentation evidencing performance of established controls
- Develop processes and drive continuous improvement, coordinating requirements across the organization
- Cross‑train with other team members and act as a back‑up, as needed
- Carry out other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 5 years relevant accounting industry experience; with at least 3 years in wholesale energy commodity market experience
- Possess a CPA or have the desire to become certified or be in progress toward certification
- Knowledge in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Knowledge of various commodity types and their settlement procedures
- Accounting and financial reporting skills, complemented by expertise in Microsoft Excel and a solid proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and SAP
- Previous experience using energy trading risk management systems
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills, essential for effective financial analysis and decision‑making
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Salary Range: $90,405 to $120,540 USD annually. This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
