Summary

The Lung Transplant Translational Research Laboratory in the Michael

E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to support the mission of developing innovative strategies for early and late lung allograft dysfunction, specifically focusing on mitochondrial and innate immune directed therapies to reduce early injury and prevent the progression to long‑term graft failure.

The Research Assistant II will perform responsible research work involving the planning, execution, and occasional supervision of projects centered on cell culture and murine in‑vivo models as well as human tissue workflows in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.

Job Duties
  • Performs murine surgical procedures such as pulmonary hilar clamping, splenectomy, and other treatments.
  • Designs and conducts laboratory research experiments including PCR, western blot, flow cytometry.
  • Performs routine Tissue Culture duties including media preparation, cell line thawing, expansion, and cryopreservation.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Prior rodent surgical experience (survival surgery).
