The Molecular and Cellular department strives to enhance basic research excellence by establishing a robust research group focused on the molecular and cellular aspects of cancer research, particularly in signaling pathways and crosstalk between tumor and tumor microenvironment in tumor initiation, progression and metastasis, and resistance to various therapies.
The position will provide technical support for laboratory-based cancer research. The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I is to provide technical assistance for mouse colony management, animal treatment and other molecular biology experiments. Additional duties will include assistance with organizing reagents and samples, and assistance with general laboratory duties including ordering lab reagents, consumables and receiving shipments. The position requires independent decision-making, judgment and exceptional organizational skills.
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining safety standards in the laboratory. Candidate must be willing to occasionally come to the laboratory on weekends when necessary for specific experiments.
The ideal candidate for the Research Assistant I role will possess a bachelor's degree in a basic science discipline and demonstrate strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and effective communication abilities. Hands‑on experience working with research animals (e.g., mice) is required, while exposure to life science experiments such as PCR and mouse studies is preferred.
Minimum $18.99 – Midpoint $23.80 – Maximum $28.61
The work location is Texas Medical Center.
The work schedule is 100% onsite.

- Maintain transgenic mouse models as instructed
- Perform genotyping of toe or tail biopsy samples
- Conduct animal manipulation techniques including blood collection
- Perform animal immunization with DNA vaccine using electroporation
- Administer drug treatments through oral gavage, intraperitoneal, and intravenous injection
- Assist with animal surgeries including subcutaneous and orthotopic injections
- Perform biochemical and molecular biology experiments as needed
- Learn laboratory equipment and relevant software required for experiments
- Perform general laboratory maintenance and cleaning of equipment
- Use computer software for accurate data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and presentation
- Accurately record and evaluate data according to requested methods
- Maintain inventories with precise, timely, and accurate records
- Prepare reagent stocks as directed by the supervisor and postdoctoral fellows
- Maintain laboratory procedures and protocols to ensure quality and integrity
- Monitor workflow related to supplies, equipment maintenance, and stock solutions
- Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and follow up on orders
- Organize reagents and samples to ensure accessibility
- Receive shipments and assist with ordering lab reagents and consumables
- Perform laboratory safety activities and provide general lab support
