Full-time (evenings and weekends)
Reporting Relationship:
Pastor and Parochial Vicar in collaboration with the parish Director of Youth Ministry.
The Middle School Youth Minister will plan and implement ministry programs for 6th through 8th grade, support high school youth ministry, and maintain strong parish connections.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement 6th through 8th grade middle-school ministry programs (60%).
- Assist with high school youth ministry, planning and implementing programs (40%).
- Maintain strong support and connection to the parish.
- Middle School – Edge Program
:
Plan, implement, and oversee the Edge program (weekly catechetical and social gathering for 6th–8th grade students). Edge meets Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm during the school year and includes large group teachings, small group discussions, and activities to foster students’ relationship with Christ and each other. - Plan and implement weekly Edge sessions, including large group instruction (approx. 120 students/week).
- Create curriculum with help from catechetical resources.
- Recruit, train, and maintain adult and teen volunteers (40+ volunteers).
- Send weekly newsletter to parents.
- Conduct 4–6 Edge Summer Nights post Camp Celebrate at the parish.
- Plan, implement, and oversee Camp Celebrate (week-long resident camp for students entering grades 6–8); includes a leadership volunteer training weekend in early June and a training team for teens and young adults.
- Establish method of planning/operating Camp Celebrate and training retreats with the direct oral planning team throughout the year.
- Create/facilitate registration and advertisement for Camp Celebrate (130+ participants).
- Recruit and interview high school counselors for camp (30+ total; up to 70 applicants).
- Recruit adult/young adult volunteers (35+; up to 45 applicants).
- High School Youth Ministry and Parish Responsibilities
:
Assist with planning and participation at Life Teen events; assist with setup/cleanup and technical support at Life Nights (Sundays 4:00 pm – 9:30 pm); participate in ACTS 2:42/Fireside Chats/Green Team & Retreat Team meetings (Tuesdays 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm); assist with retreats, Confirmation events, and fundraising activities (Trees & Treasures Gala, Life Teen dinners, etc.). - Engage in relational ministry to develop personal relationships with teens and lead them toward Christ.
- Teach and coordinate Confirmation preparation curriculum.
- Plan and teach 10 Discipleship sessions (October–May) and 8 makeup sessions for candidates.
- Coordinate content and communication with other small group leaders.
- Maintain attendance records and follow up on absences or concerns from Discipleship or small groups.
- Community outreach; represent the parish at youth events and community functions; attend students’ sporting events, plays, graduations, and performances.
- Ability to relate to and instruct a large middle school audience; capacity to build strong relationships with teens and young adults.
- Effective communication with parents.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and empowering volunteers (high school, college, and adult).
- Proficient with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Google applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Education:
BA required;
Religious Studies or Theology degree preferred. - Prior leadership experience with children, teens, and young adults (2+ years preferred in creating and leading Catholic formation experiences for that population).
- Commitment to the mission, ministry, values, and faith traditions of Saint Mary Parish and the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland; living in full communion with the Catholic Church.
