General Summary: Responsible for conducting legally sound, neutral, fact-finding interviews with alleged child abuse victims.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct child centered forensic interviews according to a 32 hour nationally accredited forensic interview model in accordance with CAC protocol and write reports to document forensic interview summary for child's file
  • Adhere to research-based forensic interview guidelines that create an interview environment that enhances free recall, minimizes interviewer influence and gathers information needed by all multidisciplinary team members (MDT) involved to avoid duplication of the interview process
  • Consult with investigative MDT members in a formal pre and post interview staffing to share information that may be pertinent to the interview or subsequent investigation. When a child is unable or unwilling to provide information regarding abuse, facilitate discussion about other interventions to assess child's experience and safety. Facilitate a discussion whether subsequent or multi-session interview is needed.
  • Participate in regular MDT case review meetings to ensure accountability and collaboration between team members
  • Assist in development and implementation of training for the MDT members as needed and ongoing
  • Conduct training sessions with community professionals who require education about child abuse interviewing dynamics and conduct in-service training
  • Attend and participate in staff development involving updated information on child abuse issues and interviewing technique
  • Attend and participate in structured quarterly peer review
  • Demonstrate participation in ongoing education in the field of child maltreatment and/or forensic interviewing, minimum 8 contact hours every 2 years
  • Testify in court proceedings

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Human Services, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, with preference given to Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and commensurate experience in child abuse field.
  • Previous experience working in a Children's Advocacy Center environment strongly favored
  • The ability to read, write and speak Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to child victimization and family systems
  • Academic training or practical experience in and knowledge of developmental stages of children and the dynamics and effects of child abuse.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work well with a variety of disciplines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates cultural competency
  • Maintains confidentiality policies
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have a valid Illinois Driver's License
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Sitting, talking, hearing and vision are required approximately 100% of the time.
  • Filing, bending, reaching, and keying.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • General Office Environment.

    Works as part of a multidisciplinary team along with criminal investigators, child protection workers, prosecutors, medical professionals, treatment specialists and others who may be involved in the case.
