Eastern 4‑H Center seeks licensed RNs to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season. The Camp Nurse oversees all health care operations for approximately 128 residential campers and 30 seasonal staff members each week. The role requires on‑call availability, residence on site or within a half‑hour commute, and ability to work in unpredictable outdoor conditions.
Primary Responsibilities- Follow all health care policies and procedures as described in facility standing orders, treatment procedures, and Staff Manual.
- Remain on call to respond to medical emergencies at all times campers are on‑site, including overnight.
- Perform basic assessment and first aid for conditions including, but not limited to, minor soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries, insect bites/stings, dehydration, sunburns, general illness, and provide follow‑up checks as needed.
- Facilitate proper medication administration, routine prescription and over‑the‑counter medications, throughout the day.
- Maintain written medical records for all medications and treatments according to state and American Camp Association standards.
- Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms.
- Oversee Sunday check‑in and Friday check‑out of all camper medications each week, discuss any medical concerns with parent/guardian as needed.
- Review all camper health forms and communicate medical needs to counselors as necessary.
- Manage a team of 1–2 Health Care Coordinators who assist with primary and secondary responsibilities.
- Prepare and distribute camper medication schedule list to counselors before dinner on Sundays.
- Attend all relevant staff trainings.
- Keep camp infirmary and medical supply storage space clean and organized.
- Prepare and distribute all campus first aid kits, conduct routine checks and restocks.
- Perform medical supply/equipment inventory and place restock orders.
Workdays begin at noon on Sunday and end at noon on Friday. The position requires 24/7 on‑call coverage for the entire camp season, including overnight and meal times. Lodging (7 days a week, if needed) and meals (5 days a week) are provided. Potential part‑time modification available upon discussion.
Requirements and Preferences- Licensed to practice as a LPN, RN, or APRN in North Carolina.
- Positive attitude and professionalism.
- Experience in nursing or medical field.
- Ability to administer medication.
- Ability to work independently and follow directions.
- Enjoy working with youth in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Effective communication with camp staff, parents/guardians, and campers.
- Critical thinking in emergency situations outside a clinical setting to determine higher level care when appropriate.
