HDR is looking for an energetic, hard‑working problem solver to work on both municipal and industrial water treatment facilities. The role is full‑time and based at the HDR office nearest your location.
Primary Responsibilities- Support HDR project leaders at the local, state, and regional level on water treatment projects requiring input from Operations Specialists.
- Review drawings for operability review and Haz Ops analysis, focusing on the requirements for operating a variety of treatment processes.
- Manage operations and maintenance projects with municipal and industrial clients, including client interfacing, regulatory reporting, and oversight of personnel, subcontractors, and maintenance.
- Develop startup and commissioning plans and host workshops with clients’ contractors and operators to ensure the plans work for each specific plant.
- Perform startup and commissioning of new water treatment facilities, working alongside contractors and engineers to verify new equipment functions correctly before handover to operations and maintenance staff.
- Provide formal and informal training to help clients’ treatment plants operate as well as possible.
- Participate in facility testing to ensure readiness for startup and post‑startup capacity meets design requirements.
- Conduct condition assessment and asset‑management tasks on water and wastewater facilities, using state‑of‑the‑art evaluation tools.
- Perform operational or maintenance troubleshooting and evaluations on municipal and industrial water facilities.
Travel may be required 30‑40% of the time; weekend travel is normally not required.
StronglyPreferred Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of field experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment at water treatment facilities, and/or resolving water treatment process problems (construction experience is a plus).
- High‑level water treatment operator license or professional engineering license.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and computerized maintenance and management systems.

- High school diploma or equivalent.

United States – Virginia (Vienna) is the primary location. Other locations include West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Kansas, and many others across the United States.
CompensationExpected range: $71,960 – $128,500 (dependent upon skills, experience, education, and geographic location).
