Job Description
We have an excellent opportunity for an Inside Machine Shop Supervisor to support the inside machine shops at our Jacksonville, FL Maritime Solutions location. This full‑time position requires occasional overtime to meet production demand. You will supervise experienced Inside Manual and CNC Machinists and may be required to go aboard customer vessels for onsite machining support. The role requires operating computers and equipment, strong math skills, and comfort working in an environment with cutting fluids and oils.
Safety is paramount when handling metal, glass, plastics, and composite materials, and some tasks involve heat‑processed or lubricated items that can be heavy and dangerous. Occasional travel to customer vessels or alternate sites may be required to make recommendations, determine tasks, or perform assigned duties. While experience in CNC machining is a plus, it is not initially required.
- Set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicate them to team members.
- Organize workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules.
- Supervise all fabrication and finishing tasks of Inside Machine Shop Team Members.
- Attend meetings as required in support of shop production or as assigned.
- Provide material and labor cost estimates to support planning and estimating.
- Maintain a clean and orderly shop following prescribed safety standards.
- Maintain/purchase tools and materials to support shop activities.
- Maintain proper documentation and reports as required.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations using the appropriate skills matrix.
- Participate in the hiring of new team members, providing input to the department manager.
- Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results.
- Provide support to ensure team members meet daily production goals.
- Monitor performance measures and report progress to the department manager.
- Continuously improve all areas related to the Inside Machinist craft.
- Ensure safe use of equipment, coordinate maintenance, verify production output, identify efficiency issues, track absenteeism, enforce company policies, inspect work, address employee relations issues, respond to emergencies, report ongoing issues, and report team activities to management.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Five or more years of Inside Machinist Supervisory experience.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate information on blueprints, technical drawings, and shop sketches.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools and gauges.
- Knowledge of metallurgical and machining properties of metal, plastic, glass, and composite material.
- Mathematical and mechanical aptitude related to Inside Machine Shop activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- When required, ability to safely machine/repair components using equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses.
- Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Lifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent standing up to 100 % of the shift.
- Use hands and fingers for grasping, pinching, pulling, pushing, rotating, and manipulation of tools, components, and equipment.
- Ability to identify parts and understand blueprint information.
Full‑time salary range: $73,778 – $125,422.
