Summary Objective

Lead and perform audits utilizing a risk-based approach in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards, department policies and procedures, and regulatory standards. Perform simple and complicated audits of all areas of the corporation with minimal advice and direction. Plan the work, supervise, and train staff auditors on the assignments.

Essential Functions
  • Workpaper documentation and findings should be completed in a manner consistent with departmental standards, with conclusions and reportable issues adequately supported and documented. Perform assigned audit fieldwork, which may include: permanent file documentation, compliance testing of internal policy/procedure and regulatory issues, and substantive testing of account balances affecting the income statement and balance sheet.
  • Document and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.
  • When serving as Auditor‑in‑Charge, perform independent research and planning to determine appropriate scoping and propose adjustments to audit programs and testing based on risk considerations.
  • When serving as Auditor‑in‑Charge, conduct pre‑audit and exit conferences with functional unit management to ensure an adequate understanding of audit scope and issues. Draft audit reports in accordance with department standards and present audit results to the Audit Committee as assigned by the Chief Auditor.
  • Complete assigned audits in a timely manner while employing efficient methods. Keep Audit management informed of issues, changes in circumstances, newly identified risks and the need for revision in audit approaches.
  • Complete administrative duties such as departmental time summaries, engagement time budgets and projections, quality completion of annual risk assessments, administrative binder completion, and CAF updates in a timely and effective manner.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in audit/accounting practices and procedures. Continue professional development through self‑training and attendance at Bank audit and accounting seminars, conferences, and required ethics training.
  • Provide oversight of the work of others assisting with audits, perform workpaper review, and conduct on‑the‑job training for Staff Auditors and Audit Trainees. Complete short‑form evaluations in a timely manner for each staff member as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Audit management.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • Talk expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing – perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, receiving detailed information through oral communication and making discriminations in sound.
  • Specific vision abilities required: viewing a computer monitor and extensive reading.
  • Sedentary work may require occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds or moving up to 25 pounds. This work involves sitting most of the time, walking, and driving.
Travel

No travel is required except possible training and conferences.

Education, Training and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a business‑related area with a strong background in accounting (12 credits or more) and three years of bank audit experience is desired. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in auditing, banking or accounting functions, including work with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards and Sarbanes‑Oxley controls, is acceptable. Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
