Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for accurate and timely completion of AELP payroll functions in compliance with all applicable laws, contractual requirements, and company policy. This scope of responsibility includes complying with state and federal tax withholding and reporting requirements; non-government withholding and reporting requirements; maintenance of employee and payroll files and owning employee-related data in the company’s payroll software; and coordinating access to AELP benefits, both union and non-union;
and supporting the personnel services budgeting process. This position works closely with AELP’s assistant controller, controller, chief financial officer, and chief people officer to provide proactive payroll services across the company.
The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Payroll Processing- Track and confirm approved time entry for all employees each payroll
- Process all payroll transactions from start to finish, including exception and other one-off payroll transactions
- Deliver payment to employees via direct deposit or paper check in a timely manner and in compliance with applicable laws and contracts
- Develop payroll review packets as required
- Complete weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required with adequate time to support secondary review prior to submission
- Comply with all federal and state payroll reporting requirements
- Provide ad-hoc reports as needed (budget, labor expense analysis, etc.)
- Enroll and unenroll employees into all eligible benefit programs, and provide compliance and eligibility reporting as required
- Work with retirement providers to ensure timely enrollment and accurate pay-period contribution reporting
- Work with human resources to keep organized and up-to-date employee records
- Support census and affirmative action reporting
- Assist the controller in the development of AELP’s payroll budget
- Make real-time revisions to payroll budget for overhead calculation
- Calculate cost of various personnel scenarios as requested
- Remit withholding and contribution payments for taxes, retirement, union benefits, and other items via wire, accounts payable, or other means as necessary to ensure timely payment in full.
The duties of this position will require regular use of a desktop computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, printer, as well as other office equipment as required for the job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSTo meet all expectations of this position, the employee must be able to lift 20 pounds without assistance and sit for long periods of time.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTSFor an employee to succeed in this position they will need to: utilize analytical skills for complex problem solving, prioritize workload, work efficiently and meet deadlines, collaborate with coworkers, and adapt to changing tasks.
