Overview
Protective Service Specialist 1/2 – Full‑time position in the Office of Children’s Services (OCS) in Juneau, Alaska. The role supports child protection and family services, ensuring the safety, permanency, and well‑being of children.
ResponsibilitiesAs a PSS, you will:
- Investigate reports of child abuse or neglect and conduct assessments.
- Prepare intervention plans, including seeking cooperation from families, community and Tribal partners, and arranging placement when necessary.
- Provide ongoing or in‑home services, direct reports to court, and coordinate referrals to other agencies.
- Maintain comprehensive case documentation, including court reports and evidence.
- Work closely with families, caregivers, and community partners, providing support and referrals.

- Writing – Produces clear, organized, and accurate written reports.
Additional requirements:
- Valid Real a driver’s license.
- Background check and child‑protective history check required.
Full‑time benefits include insurance, retirement, paid leave, and twelve paid holidays per year. Training is provided during the first twelve months and field‑based work may include part‑time telework where eligible.
Working EnvironmentThe position is community‑based, requiring evenings, weekends, and on‑call availability. Travel to rural areas, possibly by small aircraft or overnight stays, occurs 0‑2 times per month or less frequently. The candidate will provide support to the more rural offices from the Juneau hub.
