Chassis Fabrication Technician

General Summary

Reports to Chassis Fabrication Manager. Builds chassis new builds & repairs, component builds, as well as installing race car parts and pieces. Completes pre-body phase and prepares race car chassis and parts for body and assembly. Cleans and maintains chassis shop and equipment.

• New chassis builds, front clips, rear clips, center sections and sheet metal builds
• Builds suspension parts, other parts and pieces for race cars – weight boxes, spindles, oil tanks, A-arms, truck arms, exhaust systems, brackets, various parts and fixtures
• Fits and installs completed parts, pieces, seats and safety equipment to the race car
• Looks for areas on race car, parts and pieces that can be trimmed or lightened
• Works on special projects (911’s) as needed
• Cleans and maintains chassis shop area, tools and equipment
• Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Chassis Fabrication Department Manager

High school education or equivalent required. Typically requires 3 to 5 years of welding and fabrication experience, preferably in a race shop environment. Welding Certification preferred, not required

Proven skills in MIG and TIG welding with both steel and aluminum plus the ability to weld in all positions – horizontal, vertical, and overhead. Able to hand-fabricate most metals. Able to visualize completed products. Understanding of all components and functions of stock cars. Able to design and construct user-friendly fixtures. Strong oral communication, teamwork, and people skills. Romer and/or Faro arm skillset is a plus.

Fabrication equipment, brake, bead roller, shear, cutting tools, grinders, air tools, saws, basic hand tools, rivet guns, welding equipment, and safety equipment.

Frequent bending, squatting, working on knees, standing on concrete for long periods, and getting up and down. Able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination. Able to stay calm and focused in stressful situations while balancing tight deadlines. The work environment includes sparks, dust, noise, welding equipment, cutting tools, and power tools.
