The Continuous Improvement Engineer coordinates activities concerned with continuous improvement throughout the facility to meet strategic goals and objectives as defined by site leadership. Activities are executed in coordination with other site-based Continuous Improvement Engineers to collectively improve operational excellence and achieve overall organizational goals. In addition to extensive project management, the engineer partners in the design of global supply‑chain management solutions and client integration, using analytical and resolution skills to proactively detect root causes and solve issues related to projects.

Responsibilities
  • Confers with management to establish continuous improvement goals, objectives, and overall direction.
  • Identifies areas with functional leaders, employees, and customers to develop significant lean opportunities for improvement throughout the organization.
  • Networks with internal and external resources to bring best practices to lean projects and the organization.
  • Develops, communicates, and delivers training materials for lean processes and principles, and other necessary training.
  • Provides education and mentoring to employees on lean principles and techniques.
  • Facilitates and leads the continuous improvement process by identifying training needs and providing training in problem‑solving methodology, Kaizen, A3 problem solving, value‑stream mapping, etc.
  • Ensures open communication throughout the site by keeping management informed of project status and coordinating lean activities.
  • Manages the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring to ensure that project goals, objectives, and metrics are met and maintained.
  • Engages the leadership team in setting and achieving goals utilizing lean initiatives, working with key leaders functionally and strategically to drive overall improvements.
  • Creates metrics, deployment goals, and objectives to drive accountability throughout the organization.
  • Leads the implementation of lean programs from inception to completion.
  • Manages the planning, facilitation, and completion of lean projects to support cost‑reduction objectives.
  • Provides input and feedback to key leadership positions about process‑improvement opportunities.
  • Leads efforts to develop and deliver training.
  • Evaluates the performance or ability of employees to understand and apply lean principles.
  • Monitors activity levels of continuous‑improvement teams and team champions, alerting management of additional support needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of lean performance principles and practices, keeping the organization informed.
  • Organizes, plans, and delivers updates on the status of managed projects.
  • Models and leads operational excellence by example, visibly demonstrating leadership and change‑management behaviors.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, industrial, or project engineering or comparable education and experience.
  • Five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of lean processes and methodologies within manufacturing and/or supply‑chain environments.
  • Experience with value‑stream mapping, facilitating Kaizen events, and knowledge of lean tools such as continuous flow, set‑up reduction, pull systems, TPM, and 5S.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite; advanced Excel skills preferred.
