About Educate! // Position Overview
Educate! is a non-profit social enterprise that prepares youth in Africa with the skills to succeed in today’s economy. We’ve massively scaled up our program in the past several years, growing more than 4x since 2014. In 2019, we’re working in 275 secondary schools in Rwanda, 60 pilot schools in Kenya, and over 750 schools in Uganda reaching over 42,000 students intensively and 530,000 more broadly. Our model has proven to have massive impact -- after the program, students earned DOUBLE the income of a control group and had a 44% increase in business creation. Our graduates change their lives and their communities, such as Lillian Aero who employs over 100 AIDS-affected women.
Our Vision for 2024 is even bigger -- to measurably impact one million youth annually across Africa. In order to create the broadest and most sustainable impact, we partner with governments to support their work delivering skills-based education through national education systems.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about quality education and has the skills and drive to create supportive partnerships with government actors to join our diverse and high-performing leadership team.
The Director of Government Engagement will lead Educate!’s work with government on three fronts. First, by playing a central role in setting long-term strategies for how to create impact through schools, district and national government partners through both advocacy and direct programming. Second, by co-creating programming with design and country teams aligned to system-change strategies. Finally, through leading the functional development of the national program and coaching teams on how to execute against it. This includes defining how teams engage with governments and manage to advocacy goals centered on national curriculum, assessment, district monitoring, and teacher training policies and programming.
