Build Something That Lasts
At Bulldog Group, we don’t hire placeholders. We hire builders.
We’re looking for a Controller who wants to grow into our next CFO — not someday in theory, but through a deliberate, real succession plan over approximately three years.
If you want to own outcomes, influence company direction, and help scale a group of high-performing commercial contracting companies, keep reading.
Who We AreBulldog Group is a family of commonly owned commercial contracting companies built on grit, accountability, and results. We believe great companies are built by leaders who stay close to the work, solve real problems, and take pride in doing things the right way.
We are growing, evolving, and continuously improving how we operate — and our finance leadership plays a critical role in that evolution.
This is not a plug-and-play finance environment. This is a build, improve, and lead environment.
Why This Role ExistsOur current CFO is planning a thoughtful retirement transition. Instead of replacing that leadership overnight, we’re investing in developing the right successor.
You’ll work directly alongside our CFO, ownership, and operational leadership to learn the business from the inside out — financially, operationally, and strategically.
We’re not looking for someone who wants to “hold the seat.”
We’re looking for someone who wants to earn it, shape it, and grow into it.
The Role:Working Leader
You will lead accounting and financial operations across multiple entities — but this is not a sit-back-and-delegate position.
We run lean on purpose. Our leaders roll up their sleeves, dig into the numbers, improve systems, and solve problems firsthand.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic leadership
- Process design and improvement
- Operational financial partnership
- Hands‑on accounting and analysis work
If you like staying close to the business while helping steer it forward, this role will energize you.
What You’ll Be Trusted To Do- Own and improve accounting operations across multiple companies
- Lead accurate, timely financial reporting and close processes
- Build scalable financial processes and internal controls
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Partner with operations leaders to influence decision‑making
- Support cash flow planning and company‑wide financial strategy
- Develop and mentor accounting team members
- Collaborate directly with ownership and executive leadership
- Gradually assume enterprise‑level financial leadership responsibilities
You likely:
- Prefer ownership over hierarchy
- Are naturally skeptical and data‑driven
- Solve problems instead of pointing them out
- Move with urgency and intensity
- Enjoy building systems that didn’t exist before
- Can zoom out strategically and dive deep tactically
- Take pride in accuracy, consistency, and reliability
- Want a long‑term leadership home — not a stepping stone
You’re comfortable saying, “I’ll figure it out.” … and then actually doing it.
What Makes This Opportunity DifferentThis is a legitimate CFO development track, not a vague promise.
What You’ll Gain- Direct mentorship from current CFO
- Enterprise‑level financial leadership exposure
- Influence across multiple operating companies
- Real ownership and decision‑making impact
- A long‑term leadership opportunity within a stable, growth‑focused organization
We believe strong leadership transitions take time, intentional development, and real partnership — not rushed handoffs.
What You Bring- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7+ years progressive accounting or finance leadership experience
- Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior leadership experience
- Multi-entity or construction / project‑based accounting experience strongly valued
- Strong GAAP and financial reporting knowledge
- Track record of improving systems, processes, or reporting infrastructure
- Ability to lead teams while staying hands‑on
We invest in strong leaders.
Compensation is based on experience, leadership capability, and growth readiness. We offer a competitive compensation structure designed to grow alongside your transition toward CFO responsibilities.
Who This Role Is NOT For- Prefer heavily layered corporate environments
- Prefer directing work instead of participating in it
- Want fully built systems that rarely change
- Are looking for a short‑term résumé builder
- Prefer slow‑moving or highly bureaucratic organizations
Because they get to build.
Because their work matters.
Because they’re trusted.
Because they grow.
Ready to Apply? If you want a leadership role where you can shape outcomes, build systems, influence strategy, and ultimately step into CFO leadership — we’d love to talk.
