SummaryThe Operating Room Registered Nurse provides care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, managing surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Responsibilities- Prepares the operating room by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each procedure
- Assists in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety
- Maintains a sterile field and adheres to infection control protocols
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly
- Monitors the patient's condition during surgery, documents changes, and notifies the surgeon
- Handles instruments and supplies, ensures proper use, sterilization, and disposal per facility protocols
- Manages specimen collection, labeling, and transport per facility protocols
- Documents all aspects of perioperative patient care
- Participates in patient handoff communication during pre- and post-operative phases
- Assists in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases
- Collaborates to ensure compliance with facility policies and standards
- Follows hospital safety rules and PPE/infection prevention measures
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- One year of recent experience as an Operating Room RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- ACLS (AHA/ARC), PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certifications
- OR Nursing Certification (CNOR)
- Other certifications and licenses may be required
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication
- English language proficiency (reading/writing/comprehension)
- Ability to read and follow written/verbal instructions; proficiency in PC skills
- Physical: ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50-100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal: ability to work with a variety of personnel professionally
- Technical/Motor: ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about during procedures
- Mental: ability to manage deadlines under pressure; capable of both close supervision and independent work as needed
- Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication abilities
