Position

description

The Spanish Court Interpreter performs skilled professional duties as a certified interpreter in judicial proceedings involving limited‑English proficient (LEP) individuals. The Interpreter facilitates communication between the Court and the LEP individual.

Duties
  • Interpret and translate oral statements, testimony, and written documents presented in either Spanish or English.
  • Serve as the official Interpreter daily for first appearances, arraignments, preliminary hearings, trials, and other court proceedings for LEP defendants, witnesses, and victims.
  • Translate forms and documents utilized in court proceedings and input data into the Court Interpreter Data Base (CIDB).
  • Participate in workshops for court interpreters, train and observe freelance contractual interpreters.
  • Become familiar with simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation techniques and procedures.
  • Adhere to the Florida Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) and the Code of Professional Conduct (Part III).
Qualifications
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish; able to read and write both languages with proficiency.
  • Must be able to work independently in a high‑stress environment.
  • Working knowledge of the court system is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in Spanish, English, or any field closely related to law is preferred.
  • Two years of court/legal‑related experience may substitute for the recommended educational level or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to multiple counties and locations on a regular basis (Osceola and Orange Counties).
  • Must complete a State of Florida orientation program and obtain state certification within one year of employment; passing the Federal Certification oral exam can substitute for the Consortium exam.
  • Availability for weekend and holiday coverage.

  • Location:

    Primarily Osceola County, with coverage in Orange County.
  • Salary: $6,089.17 per month for certified court interpreters or $5,480.26 per month if not certified; certified by the Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) of the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA).
