Security Field Supervisor

The Security Field Supervisor is responsible for the daily management and oversight of security operations during their assigned shift. They play a key role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position demands excellent customer service skills combined with a vigilant focus on meeting the needs of the community. We are dedicated to providing a secure and supportive atmosphere for everyone.

Responsibilities
  • Receives information and special instructions from the Manager, Supervisor and/or Assistant Vice President, Safety, Security and Risk Management.
  • Regulates parking and traffic to prevent accidents and congestion.
  • Patrols college property to prevent unauthorized loitering, parking, thefts, and vandalism.
  • Coordinates activities and events with the Manager, Supervisor and/or Assistant Vice President, Safety, Security and Risk Management.
  • Deploys shift personnel and resources to meet operational objectives.
  • Inspects personnel and activities to maintain quality service.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal, and mechanical nature.
  • Receives and records service and personnel complaints.
  • Performs investigations of incidents occurring on college property.
  • Takes written statements and depositions from witnesses or victims.
  • Participates in security duties as required.
  • Assumes supervisors’ and managers’ responsibilities in their absence.
  • Generates staffing schedules.
  • Manages the Student Escort Service.
  • Reviews and answers student parking appeals.
  • Directs evening LEO Contractual Services.
  • Derives and measures training performance modules.
  • Responds as “on‑call” person (four hours daily, Monday–Friday; 12 hours each Saturday/Sunday).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License or any federal, state, county, municipal, corrections, or military academy/police or law enforcement certification.
    • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
    • Ability to make prompt independent decisions supporting security operations.
    • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 180 days of employment start date.
    • Preferred:
      Security officer and supervisory experience.

    Additional Information
    • This position operates in a fully onsite environment.
    • Eligible for Veteran’s Preference under Florida Statute 295.07(5)(a), F.S.
    • May be eligible for nighttime differential per Valencia College Pay policies.
    • Must pass a drug test.
    • Requires completion of a full online application with work history and driver’s license information; incomplete applications will not be considered.
    • Must establish Florida residency within 30 days of start date if selected.
    Working Conditions

    Employees will work in a professional office environment and throughout college sites and grounds. They may be exposed to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. Physical demands include standing, moving, ascending and descending stairs, reaching, lifting or moving objects weighing 5–100 pounds, and maintaining communication. Employees must be available by cell phone during workday and may need to work after regular hours, including being on‑call.

    The role requires physical conditioning as per Florida law, possibly including lifting more than 100 pounds, and the use of a college vehicle for certain functions.

    Cellular telephone service will be provided, and employees must provide current cell phone number upon hire.
