Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Design Technician I

We anticipate the application window for this opening will close on 6 Jun 2026.

At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.

A Day in the Life

Medtronic’s Lafayette campus supports more than 6 R&D groups developing life‑changing medical technologies used in spinal and neurosurgery, robotics ligature, patient monitoring, and advanced imaging.

We are seeking a Design I Technician to join our Advanced Measurement Lab (AML), an area specializing in industrial CT scanning, CMM metrology, and precision measurement of prototype medical devices. No two days look the same here — our technicians are hands‑on problem solvers who support engineers developing the next generation of medical innovation.

This role is intentionally structured as an “apprenticeship style” opportunity — perfect for someone self‑driven, curious, and eager to build a long‑term technical career. This is a rare opportunity to enter a highly specialized technical pathway with significant growth and development support, including formal training, on‑the‑job mentorship, and 100% tuition coverage through Medtronic’s MAPS program.

The schedule for this role is Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $28.50 / hourly + 5% annual bonus target
  • 4 weeks paid time off per year
  • 10 paid holidays per year
  • 401(k) with up to 6% match
  • Comprehensive benefits plan, including medical, dental, vision, and more
  • Fully subsidized bachelor’s degree programs paid up front, and many other paid training opportunities
  • Paid family, medical, and parental leave after 1 year of employment
  • Many more benefits to choose from
As a Design Technician I, you will:
  • Perform industrial CT scanning, CMM measurements, and other advanced metrology techniques to support R&D engineering teams.
  • Collaborate daily with engineers and fellow technicians, acting as a problem solver and technical partner.
  • Support multiple projects at once — no repetitive manufacturing work; each day brings new challenges and variety.
  • Work hands‑on in a prototype‑focused environment including 3D printing, model shop machining, and other design support labs.
  • Apply critical thinking and an innovative mindset to improve measurements, processes, and lab workflows.
  • Learn from senior experts with decades of specialized metrology experience, building mastery over a 1–2‑year training timeline.

Environment:

  • The AML includes contained, light‑source radiation similar to a hospital imaging environment.

Must‑Have Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills (needed for technical documentation and daily customer interaction with engineers).
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Lafayette, Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on technical experience (professional, vocational, hobbyist, military, maker space, etc.).
  • Exposure to measurement tools, machining, 3D printing, or mechanical systems.
  • Customer‑facing work experience, even outside engineering.
  • Curiosity, self‑motivation, and enthusiasm for learning new tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem‑solve, stay focused, and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing principles and symbols.
  • Understanding of mechanical assemblies and systems.
  • Exposure to 3D CAD systems.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
