Client Overview

Our client, a non‑profit organization, is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join their growing team. This individual will have strong attention to detail, hands‑on accounting experience, and a desire to continue developing their accounting skill set within a collaborative finance department.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$19/hr - $25/hr DOE

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and detail‑oriented Accounting Specialist to support the finance team. This role will assist with accounts payable functions, invoice processing, expense tracking, reconciliations, and overall accounting support. The ideal candidate will have experience with invoice tracking systems or accounting software, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to ensure accurate and timely financial processing. This is a hands‑on opportunity with growth potential for someone with 1 – 2 years of relevant experience or internship experience.

Responsibilities

of the Accounting Specialist
  • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, from invoice receipt through payment processing.
  • Utilize accounting and invoice tracking software to process and monitor invoices.
  • Perform two check runs per week (30 – 60 invoices).
  • Ensure accuracy and attention to detail during invoice verification and processing.
  • Assist with grant expense tracking and invoice‑related accounting functions.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to support accurate financial reporting and communication.
  • Review and reconcile discrepancies between accounting records and departmental expense tracking.
  • Maintain accurate vendor payment records and ensure timely payments.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
  • Assist with general accounting and administrative finance functions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Required Experience/Skills
  • 1 – 2 years of accounting, accounts payable, or related experience (internship experience considered).
  • Experience with accounting software or invoice tracking systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial processing.
  • Understanding of accounts payable and general accounting processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
Preferred Experience /Skills
  • Experience with grant tracking and related accounting processes.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Experience processing 30 – 60 invoices per run.
  • Previous internship or professional experience in a similar accounting role.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
