General Labor, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Purpose and Scope
This position is responsible for repairing office furniture and equipment such as staplers, file cabinets, cubicle setups, and locks. Additional duties include loading and unloading trucks, moving pallets and boxes, operating a small truck or van to local sites, and occasionally making deliveries and pick‑ups at the Post Office.
Essential Responsibilities- Examine date machines, time stamps, electric staplers, and other office machines used in tax processing to determine cause of malfunction.
- Make repairs as needed to system furniture and customer property as directed by work orders.
- Determine maintenance needs and replace wheels of rolling stock.
- Maintain parts inventory for daily repairs; communicate needed parts to manager for ordering.
- Maintain files of documents used and prepared.
- Maintain key inventory, key‑making equipment, and repair locks as requested by work orders.
- Assemble customer equipment as required by work order.
- Perform other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Two (2) years of job‑related experience, including basic computer operations skills.
- Must be able to process routine reports.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle.
- Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, taste, or smell.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Requires close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, wet/humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock.
