Adjunct Instructor - Physical Fitness & Weight Training

Hours Per Week: Up to 30 Hours

Compensation Type: PT Faculty-Pay Based on PT Salary Schedule

LCC's Fitness program is currently looking for faculty to teach physical fitness courses to students pursuing the Electrical Utility Lineworker Program. Teaching duties will be primarily on LCC's West Campus.

Adjunct (part‑time) faculty in this position teach courses in didactic and lab formats at all levels of Physical Fitness training. Depending on program needs and qualifications, teaching assignments will be primarily on LCC’s downtown Lansing campus with the possibility of West campus, East campus, and/or online assignments. An on‑campus presence and traditional in‑person teaching is required. Faculty are expected to work collaboratively with senior faculty, coordinators, and the Program Director to develop course content consistent with official syllabi and industry standards.

Duties include planning & preparation of course materials, delivery of instruction, assessment and grading, and assisting students outside of class. Additional responsibilities may include participation in course assessment, departmental meetings, advisory board meetings, professional development activities, and other duties as needed. Faculty must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, work effectively in a team‑based environment, and seek continuous improvement.

Teaching Load Limits

Adjunct Instructors shall not exceed:

  • 12 workload hours of teaching during Fall and Spring semesters, including preparation and evaluation.
  • 10 workload hours of teaching during Summer semester.
  • 14 workload hours during Fall and Spring semesters, and 12 during Summer semester for Physical Fitness and Wellness, and Performing Arts.
  • Workload increases do not change part‑time status.
Professional Activities and Duties

Part‑time faculty may have non‑teaching assignments such as course development, curriculum development, student advising, or leadership assignments, provided workload does not exceed thirty (30) clock hours per week or 1,560 clock hours per academic year.

General Adjunct Instructor Requirements

Primary duty: teaching students in instructional settings. Responsibilities include serving as principal source of instruction and faculty of record, curriculum planning and development, preparing and delivering course content, comprehensive assessment and grading.

Eligibility Requirements

Regular on‑campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Employees must be residents of the State of Michigan and perform all work within Michigan.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Current National Fitness certification from an accredited organization, maintained throughout employment.
  • Current American Heart Association or Red Cross BLS & AED Certification, maintained throughout employment.
  • Significant experience working in fitness or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population and as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in fitness or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Teaching experience at the college or community college level.
  • Experience with course management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
