Responsibilities
- Anchor our market‑leading Monday‑Friday evening newscasts
- Exercise a strong news judgment, research complicated stories, and determine the content and quality of newscasts
- Act as a co‑producer during the late newscasts
- Read/copy edit news scripts before each show
- Be a digital‑first journalist, posting compelling content to social media and the station's digital platforms
- Be involved in the community, emceeing events, and making public appearances as requested by the station
- Be ready to report/field anchor when major breaking news happens
- Report and produce regular franchise stories
- A college degree in journalism or a related field is required
- Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable
- Initiative and attention to detail are required
- Be able to write clearly and accurately; great grammar!
- Must be able to work well under sometimes intense pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will work well with co‑workers, supervisors, and viewers
- Ability to keep up with national and local news/weather is required
- Ability to enterprise local hard‑news stories is required
- Computer knowledge, including newsroom software, Microsoft applications, and Internet use
- Produce newscasts, including stacking, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, making maps, coordinating live shots with directors, production staff, reporters & photographers
- Must be able to edit video and audio
- Must be able to carry camera equipment (about 15‑20 LB.)
