Perform structural engineering work, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, relating to the design of new and existing structures. Additional tasks may include coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients, managing projects independently, and supervising junior engineers. Ensures high-quality deliverables are produced and distributed on time and in compliance with project-specific construction codes. Demonstrates leadership qualities and a passion for growing within the structural engineering profession.
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full‑Time Consultant Structural Engineer for our Las Vegas, NV office. Be involved in projects with our Property and Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact- Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, light‑frame wood, and mass timber structures for residential, institutional, and commercial projects.
- Develop structural engineering solutions to facilitate the re‑use of existing building structures through structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments.
- Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end‑users, while also utilizing future‑ready solutions with structural engineering design standards.
- Contribute to project coordination through remote/in‑person meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site notebooks/logs.
- Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of small‑to‑medium‑sized projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input to develop action plans for low to mid‑level risk mitigation activities.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work‑related issues.
- Detailed understanding of seismic design procedures, ductility, and mechanics of different building materials.
- Basic knowledge of linear and non‑linear finite element analysis and performance‑based design.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of process and concepts for sustainability and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
