Position: Community Support Worker (Career Grade) - Mental Health - Locality & Reablement

Role Overview

As a Community Support Worker, you will meet with individuals, families and carers to connect and listen and where necessary undertake an assessment under the Care Act 2014. Where there is an eligible need, you will devise a plan for how the person can access the support they require – this may be connecting with their local community, referral onto other agencies or providing service to support their unmet need.

Where necessary, you will identify and report potential safeguarding, consider mental capacity, and other high‑risk situations where a person's safety or liberty may be r team will have an office base and can work in a hybrid way. You will undertake visits to people in their own homes, in a hospital setting or wherever the person feels most comfortable to meet you.

We are seeking to appoint a Community Support Worker who wishes to join our Mental Health Team serving the Blaby, Oadby & Wigston, and Harborough areas. If successful, you will be part of a close‑knit, collaborative service dedicated to supporting people to live well in their communities. You will work alongside experienced Community Support Workers, Community Reablement Workers and Social Workers, based in Bassett Street in Wigston, contributing to a multi‑disciplinary approach that values shared learning, mutual support, and a strong team ethos.

We are passionate about developing your career in social care. As a Grade 8 Trainee Community Support Worker you will be in your first CSW role and will be expected to develop experience, knowledge and skills, complete your Learning and Induction Programme and undertake your duties with support and supervision. As a Grade 9 Community Support Worker you will be expected to have sufficient experience, knowledge and skills to manage your workload under supervision, and to deliver a high‑quality, person‑centred, accountable statutory social care.

This includes demonstrating competency in undertaking Care and Support Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments and making Best‑Interest decisions.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post. You will require a valid full driving licence or access to a vehicle for this position.

Qualifications
  • Hold a Level 2 in Maths and English and a relevant health/social care qualification – a full Level 2 or 3 qualification in adult social care, for example NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Care, or equivalent.
  • Have relevant experience of working with adults in a social care setting and of working with other agencies within a fieldwork environment.
  • Understand the need to undertake need and risk assessments and the issues/needs that adults and their families/carers may have.
  • Have a good understanding of social care organisations and their roles and responsibilities as part of the wider community and voluntary sector.
  • Be a confident communicator who is skilled in negotiation, persuasion, assertiveness, and conflict management, and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Be able to recognise the limits of your own accountability and responsibility, and to seek appropriate support and advice when required.
  • Be able to manage a caseload and work to clear objectives.
