JOB TITLE: Practice Nurse
REPORTS TO: Lead Nurse, Operations Manager
HOURS: 33.5 hours per week. Negotiable for the right candidate
Monday: 8:30am – 5pm
Tuesday: 8:30am – 2pm
Thursday: 8:30am – 5pm
Friday: 8:30am – 5pm
We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and organised Primary Care Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who enjoys a varied role and values continuity of care within general practice.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of our multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality nursing care to our Nevells Road Surgery population, both within the practice and in patients’ homes.
We welcome someone who brings a positive attitude, is self‑motivated and able to work independently. While we offer support from our clinical and administrative staff when required.
Main duties of the job- Wound care management and dressings
- Suture and clip removal
- ECG recording
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Administration of injections and vaccinations, including childhood, seasonal and adult immunisations per national guidance
- Cervical cytology
- Travel vaccinations and advice
- Health promotion and preventative care advice
- Urinalysis
- Stocking measurement
- Undertake a small number of patient housebound visits (fuel costs expensed to the practice)
- Assist with annual long term condition reviews
- Clinical admin: checking and recording fridge temperatures, checking emergency trolley & equipment
- Act as chaperone
- Stock ordering and management
- Support and guide junior members of the nursing team where necessary
- Maintain accurate patient records and coding using the practice’s clinical system (Systm One)
- Ensure infection prevention and control procedures are followed at all times
- Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns for children and vulnerable adults
- Maintain NMC professional registration and undertake revalidation requirements
- Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal and CPD
- Work within practice policies, procedures and NHS England (or equivalent) guidelines
- Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and Caldicott principles
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Experience working in a primary care environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues and patients
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Competent with IT and clinical systems (ideally Systm One & Accu Rx)
- Comfortable following practice processes & procedures
