Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) - English and Social Studies Teacher - Grade 9
FTE: 1.00 – Interim *
Not open to current continuing contracted teachers within Lethbridge School Division.
The expected start date is August 25, 2026.
The competition will remain open until June 1, 2026 at 9:00am.

- Possesses deep knowledge of subject disciplines and applies evidence‑based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices in elementary education
- Shows proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs
- Implements effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can thrive
- Integrates technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences
- Embodies the qualities of a reflective professional, actively engaging in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS)
- Demonstrates commitment to building and maintaining respectful, professional relationships within the school community
- Values and actively participates in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families
- Contributes actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs while developing effective partnerships within the school and broader community
- Have educational background in Social Studies and English Language Arts
- Be able to successfully collaborate within each department
- Have the ability to embed comprehension strategies that align with instructional purpose and support students in analyzing complex texts
- Have the ability to encourage annotation, questioning, and discussion as students explore multiple perspectives and historical contexts
- Have the ability to reinforce academic vocabulary and domain‑specific language in both Social Studies and ELA to help students access and articulate complex ideas
- Have the ability to motivate students to connect ideas across texts
- Use text sets to compose synthesis essays or multimedia responses to essential questions
- Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services
- Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name cannot be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire
