Courtroom Technology Assistant
Location:
Androscoggin County Courthouse, Lewiston.
The State of Maine Judicial Branch welcomes motivated team members to serve the communities of Maine within the court system. As part of a network of 31 courts processing over 130,000 cases annually, you will support a safe, accessible, efficient, and impartial dispute resolution system.
Salary Range:
Grade 11 – $23.65 to $32.01 per hour.
- Operate courtroom technology.
Manage electronic recording systems (For The Record®, analog recording), courtroom sound systems, assistive listening devices, video monitors, DVD and VHS players, interactive video conferencing, MAC/PC systems, and other related technology.
- Troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
Identify basic hardware and software issues, make referrals, work with service contractors, and arrange for testing, care, maintenance, and inventory of all technology equipment.
- Operate in courtroom settings.
Check microphones, cabling, recording heads, and monitor court testimony recordings. Adjust microphone positions and audio levels, prepare detailed log notes, play back recordings, mark exhibits or witnesses, and produce original/duplicate recordings.
- Conduct quality control.
Review recordings for optimum quality, prepare audio assessments, develop and implement quality control procedures, and maintain relevant lists.
- Perform administrative and customer‑service duties.
Communicate with public, judicial officers, court staff, attorneys, and agencies. Provide training, develop materials, forward transcript orders, estimate transcript costs, and prepare reports, memoranda, and other documents as instructed.
- Travel.
Travel to courts throughout the state as required.
- Education.
High school diploma or GED. Two years clerical experience in a Clerk’s Office or comparable work preferred.
- Experience.
Experience with courtroom technologies preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities.
- Operate and maintain electronic recording, courtroom sound systems, assistive listening devices, computer systems, television monitors, DVD/VHS units, interactive video systems, and other related courtroom technology.
- Learn and use detailed computer applications, including recording software.
- Understand networked computers and pull audio from a network.
- Type ≥ 45 words per minute.
- Deliver excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Understand court procedures, legal documents, laws, and judicial policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform work with accurate attention to detail and follow oral and written instructions.
- Travel to courts statewide.
- Communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
