The Forklift Driver supports production and distribution efforts across retail outlets and warehouse environments, ensuring the efficient movement, storage, and handling of merchandise and materials. This role operates a forklift and other powered equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count products. Responsibilities include loading and unloading deliveries, transporting goods throughout the facility, and supporting inventory accuracy. The Forklift Driver plays a key role in maintaining safe, organized, and efficient operations across retail outlet floors, warehouse storage areas, and distribution spaces.
ExampleDuties and Activities
- Safely unload inbound shipments and transport products to appropriate outlet or warehouse storage areas; efficiently stack and store merchandise.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate, properly documented, and free of damage; report quality variances.
- Pull and prepare products for shipment or distribution, ensuring correct quantities and product types are selected.
- Perform order picking and staging in a manner that meets operational and customer service standards.
- Move products between staging, storage, retail outlet floors, and trailers using forklifts or other powered equipment.
- Load and unload materials using proper techniques to ensure safe weight distribution and prevent damage.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, double stackers, and other equipment safely and efficiently following established procedures.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance; document safety checks.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and physical inventories; ensure proper stock rotation.
- Keep work areas (including warehouse, dock, and outlet spaces) clean, organized, and secure.
- Follow all OSHA and SDS safety standards and promote a culture of safety in all environments.
- Assist with general facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance as needed.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, outlet team members, and leadership to support daily operations.
- Current Forklift Operator certification or ability to obtain.
- Knowledge of warehouse processes – receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping.
- Teamwork – works well with others, contributes to team or project outputs.
- Communication skills – gives full attention, recognizes points, asks clarifying questions, and writes clear instructions and correspondence.
- Mathematical aptitude – performs basic arithmetic, calculates rates, ratios, and percentages, and interprets bar graphs.
- Adaptability – adjusts priorities quickly while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Safety awareness – recognizes risks, applies control measures, and follows all safety protocols.
- Reasoning ability – applies common sense to solve problems with multiple concrete variables.
- Technical knowledge – familiarity with computers and relevant software, basic computer and Internet navigation skills.
