Manage the Landfill Gas to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility to maximize production while ensuring safe work practices, environmental compliance, timely maintenance, contract compliance, and coordination with landfill management and operations. This role acts as a plant owner and is available whenever necessary to meet the objectives of the role and the needs of the facility. The RNG Plant Manager will operate and maintain equipment such as specialty gas processing equipment, gas compressors, H2S removal systems, Nitrogen Removal Unit, and Pressure Swing Absorber.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform intermediate to advanced instrument and control repair, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Capture data and evaluate action for optimized plant performance within identified budgets, meeting safety and environmental compliance requirements.
- Organize and manage small to large‑scale plant outages and projects, maintain records of maintenance reports, gas data analysis, and waste‑stream documentation.
- Operate advanced instrumentation and process control systems.
- Lead, manage, and coordinate all third‑party vendors or customers for scheduled and unscheduled plant maintenance, compliance, and well‑field issues.
- Communicate regularly with the Market Area Gas Operations Manager (MAGOM) and/or WMRE Operations Manager.
- Inspect plant machinery and equipment, perform repairs, maintenance, and services per SOP, equipment manuals, and WMRE policies and training.
- Implement WM and WMRE safety policies and practices for all work activities and ensure compliance by staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Complete all mandatory safety and operational training as assigned by supervisor.
- Procure plant supplies and replacement equipment efficiently, manage vendors, and adhere to WMRE guidelines while managing the annual budget.
- Respond promptly to calls for plant shutdowns during non‑business hours, diagnose and resolve issues to return the plant to operation while consulting with WMRE operations managers as needed.
- Maintain facility spare inventory and provide a written inventory count twice annually.
- Complete special assignments/tasks as required by WMRE Operations Manager, Market Area Gas Operations Manager, or Landfill District Manager.
- Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly and professionally across business units.
- Wear and operate assigned PPE and follow WM and WM Renewable Energy safety protocols.
- Work on electrical systems, DC and AC low voltage, to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs.
- Use basic computer skills to communicate, document, and change operations settings for plant performance optimization.
Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited) required.
Experience: Five years of relevant plant operations or plant maintenance experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver License in state of employment.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:
- Fundamental knowledge of computer data entry and interpretation.
- Ability to manage fiduciary responsibilities.
- Lift a minimum of 100 lbs.
- Travel up to 15% with overnight stays.
- Diagnose and repair 12/24 V DC circuits.
- Basic knowledge of 120/240/480 V 3‑phase AC circuits.
- Understand complex processes and action‑based thinking.
- Familiarity with basic building maintenance principles.
- Industry‑level communication skills.
Preferred:
- Gas processing or pipeline operations experience.
- Gas compression and conditioning.
- Controls and programming.
- Landfill gas collection.
- Automotive or heavy‑equipment technician.
- Refrigeration or HVAC experience.
- Skilled in P& electrical drawing interpretation.
