Process Development Engineer II, Upstream

Job Description

The Process Development Engineer II supports biotherapeutics process development by executing hands‑on cell culture and upstream development experiments. This role involves planning and running studies across a range of upstream unit operations, including bench‑top bioreactors, Am  microscale bioreactors, shake flasks, WAVE bioreactors, and high‑throughput purification systems.

You will collaborate with senior process engineers to execute complex studies while partnering closely with the broader process development team to generate high‑quality data, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to the optimization of upstream processes. This role also supports laboratory operations by ensuring equipment readiness and reliability.

• Execute and monitor experiments using cell culture and upstream unit operations (bench‑top bioreactors, Am , shake flasks, WAVE bioreactors, high‑throughput purification systems)
• Operate and monitor bioprocess equipment using Delta
  
  V or similar process control systems
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure day‑to‑day operational readiness
• Partner with senior engineers to plan and execute larger studies and experiments
• Document experimental work in electronic laboratory notebooks with clear, accurate, and timely records
• Perform basic data analysis to evaluate trends and support study conclusions
• Prepare technical summaries and study updates to communicate findings
• Adhere to laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to workflows, data capture, and execution
• Contribute to project tasks and small initiatives under guidance

• Associate’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, biological engineering, biotechnology, biology, or a related field, with relevant laboratory or process development experience
• Experience in cell culture, upstream process development, or biotherapeutics development
• Hands‑on experience with bioreactors, shake flasks, or related upstream platforms
• Familiarity with Delta
  
  V or similar process control systems
• Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks for documentation
• Ability to perform basic data analysis and clearly communicate findings
• Strong technical writing skills for reports and documentation
• Understanding of laboratory practices, development processes, and quality requirements
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
• Ability to work effectively under guidance in a collaborative team environment
