The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
Under general supervision of the principal and in consultation with the director of instructional technology, provides all students, faculty and staff with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth; aids all students in acquiring the skills needed to access a variety of learning commons (library) media resources.

- Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
- Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
- Plans, prepares and provides instruction in the skills necessary to access information in all formats to ensure optimal student achievement. Instruction can be implemented in large group, small group and individual settings.
- Establishes and maintains standards for acceptable student behavior, using appropriate techniques.
- Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of theories, techniques, technology and skills in the field of library information science. Engages in professional development activities that enhance this knowledge.
- Provides an atmosphere conducive to individual inquiry, small group activities, research, study and relaxation in support of student achievement.
- Develops and maintains a balanced comprehensive collection of print media, non-print media, and technology to support classroom curriculum. Assists teachers and staff in the selection of media for student achievement.
- Trains staff on the use of specialized equipment and/or technology, in addition to training on applicable educational software.
- Oversees and trains staff on copyright policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates additional professional competencies, responsibilities and requirements as established by the State Board of Education and policies of the district.
- Maintains and updates computerized inventory of library holdings and patron information; maintains card catalogs and other collection records as needed.
- Schedules and video-records instructional programs as requested by teachers; dubs videotapes as requested; assists in evaluating quality and effectiveness of programs for classroom use; schedules and sets up audio-visual equipment in classrooms as needed for viewing.
- Prepares books, periodicals and newspapers, videotapes and other materials for circulation.
- Assists students and teachers in selecting appropriate reading materials and information sources and in locating needed information for research/classroom projects.
- Performs general library duties, including receiving and processing new materials, cataloging, checking materials in and out, reserving materials for faculty and staff members, shelving materials and straightening shelves, weeding materials, mending books, preparing book displays, preparing bibliographies, etc.
- Prepares and issues student library cards.
- Conducts annual physical inventory of library materials.
- Assists in coordinating special programs, services and events, as required.
- Maintains neatness and cleanliness of Learning Commons.
- Compiles data for and prepares various administrative, technical and statistical reports required by the school and district.
- Prepares posters, signs, and banners and laminates items for teachers as requested.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints in areas of responsibility.
- Operates a variety of equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, audio-visual equipment, recording equipment, digital cameras, copiers, calculators, telephones, laminating machines, die cut machines, art waxers, binding machines, etc.
