Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated laborer to join our team in conducting highway and roadside safety research. The role involves a significant amount of physical labor, including jack hammering and digging holes, as part of constructing and testing roadside safety systems. This position offers the opportunity to work with an internationally recognized organization that develops innovative safety features for highways and race tracks.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in construction, demolition, and setup for component and full-scale testing of highway and roadside safety systems.
  • Engage in earthwork, concrete, and highway safety hardware construction, following plans under the guidance of research engineers and managers.
  • Perform outdoor testing and construction year-round.
  • Operate equipment such as bobcats, forklifts, dump trucks, backhoes, booms, compressors, and generators.
  • Assist in building barriers and barricades for testing.
  • Collaborate with team members to haul products across job sites.
  • Utilize basic hand tools and power tools to construct barricades.
  • Ensure attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Pick up materials, run errands, and assist in digging holes for posts and building guardrails.
Essential Skills
  • 6+ months experience with hand tools, including wrenches, hammers, band saws, and grinders.
  • 6+ months of experience reading blueprints and work instructions.
  • Experience in working in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to consistently lift up to 50lbs.
  • Precision‑oriented work experience for at least 1 year.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • 6+ months of experience working with cars or a strong interest in cars.
  • 1 year of apprentice work in any trade.
  • Associate’s degree in Construction, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, CAD, Industrial, Engineering, Technology, Maintenance, Automotive, or related fields, plus 2 years of related work experience.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in general construction using concrete, steel, and wood.
  • Experience in using construction‑related hand and power tools.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Work Environment

Our work environment is primarily outdoors, with conditions that vary with the seasons. Employees will feel the heat and cold, with temperatures rising about 15 degrees hotter in summer due to asphalt. The work site spans 40 acres, offering ample space for our operations. Our team works in groups of 2‑3, with a total of 15‑20 individuals on‑site depending on the season.

Standard work hours are from 7 am to 4:30 pm. The dress code includes steel‑toe boots, ear protection, shorts or pants, and layers as needed.

This is a Contract position based out of Lincoln, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
