Environmental Engineer
Position Overview
We are adding several Mid level and Senior level Mechanical Engineers to support our growing Industrial division. We are looking for experienced design engineers who know how to deliver specifications, size components and equipment, develop drawings and P&IDs and related documentation for Industrial Facilities. We specialize in balance of plant design working through conceptual, through final design, into construction. If you have experience with EPC projects performing these functions, we would love to talk with you.
Our projects could include the design of low and medium voltage power, balance of plant design, biogas facilities, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment facilities, mining facilities, and data centers. As we move into hyperscale data center facilities, we are looking for individuals with experience with boilers and chillers, cooling distribution units (CDUs), Computer room handling units (CRAH), fan walls, and containment modules for air cooling.
We are looking for great communicators, desire to work as part of a dynamic team, and want to grow into leadership/senior positions.
Mid level Engineers must be based in our Colorado or Kansas offices. Sr. Engineers can be based near one of our main Kiewit design locations – Colorado-Lone Tree, Kansas-Lenexa, Texas-Houston. Some consideration will be made for fully remote candidates that meet and exceed our requirements at a Senior Mechanical Engineering level. We offer relocation assistance to the district office in Lenexa, Kansas.
Responsibilities- Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, and gas systems. Mechanical system design includes preparing calculations for both pressurized and gravity driven systems to size lines, material selection, and correct Code requirement application.
- Perform design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
- Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project’s mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams; including the management and oversight of third party engineering, as well as coordinate vendor packages and work on vendor submittals and selection.
- Review project contracts, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual documents and incorporate into the design as required to ensure the project meets or exceeds project goals.
- More Senior engineers may provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
- Manage other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
- Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities.
- Generate deliverables such as PFD’s, P&’s, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
- Support the construction team including representing the design team on‑site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc.
