Overview

Job Goals

Assist the Principal in creating a positive and welcoming school environment that fosters lifelong learning, strong community involvement, and a solution-focused approach. Develop a school climate that supports a shared vision to achieve the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and district.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in instruction delivery, including clinical observation of teachers, coaching in instructional methods, formal evaluation, and development/supervision of improvement plans when necessary.
  • Chair all special education three-year evaluations; manage 504 meetings and other related meetings as needed.
  • Support special education with protocol and procedures (e.g., scheduling, staffing).
  • Assist with student management and discipline.
  • Assist with assessing and improving teaching and learning; development of schedules; assignment of non-teaching duties; program evaluations; development of new programs.
  • Coordinate discipline policies and practices; advise on changes to the student handbook and file changes with the School Committee and Department of Education.
  • Coordinate orientation of new teachers, substitute teachers, and student teachers.
  • Maintain active professional growth through coursework, workshops, seminars, conferences, and reading.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Evaluation and Employment Terms
  • Evaluation:
    In accordance with the current Agreement between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.

School Overview

Wolf Swamp Road School serves approximately 415 students (pre-K through 5th). The school offers preschool, full-day kindergarten, and elementary programs with a focus on a Responsive Classroom approach, social-emotional learning, and CASEL core competencies. Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal or Special Education Administrator License.
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Coursework, degree, or license in special education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with special education preferred.
  • Working knowledge of special education laws.
  • Experience or training in evaluation of instruction.
  • Experience with behavioral intervention strategies and programs.
  • Experience with tiered interventions for academic and social-emotional learning (e.g., MTSS).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.
