Responsibilities
Performs inspections on behalf of the City's Building Inspection Division; assists in reviewing building plans; interprets and enforces building regulations, codes, and ordinances; investigates building complaints and code violations; responds to building inspection inquiries; prepares and maintains inspection records and reports; and performs other related duties.
Coordinates, schedules, and conducts inspections of various types of commercial and/or residential structures and facilities within area of expertise and current certifications. Inspects construction, renovation, or demolition work for compliance with applicable building and/or fire codes, ordinances, standards, and/or project specifications. Reviews the quality of structural, mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing installations. Identifies and documents faulty construction materials and/or substandard workmanship; writes and issues corrective orders as required.
Communicates with contractors and property owners regarding code or other inspection issues. Investigates complaints regarding building and/or fire code violations and/or contractors; prepares/issues warnings and related correspondence. Surveys for and reports non-permitted construction activity occurring within the City. Interprets, explains, and participates in enforcing local, State, and Federal construction regulations, codes, and ordinances. Responds to inquiries from contractors and the general public regarding the City's building inspection/permitting processes or other related matters.
Participates in reviewing building plans; monitors documentation for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
- Associate's Degree in Construction Management, Building Inspection Technology, or related field, and one year building inspection experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
- ICC Residential Inspector within one year.
- ICC Commercial Inspector within eighteen months.
- NPDES Certified Storm Water Inspector – Municipal within one year.
- State of Texas Irrigation Inspector within two years.
Work is performed primarily in the field. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, uneven terrain, general construction hazards, heavy equipment, noise from equipment operation, electrical currents, hazardous materials/chemicals, and infectious diseases is involved.
