What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 or Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Position will be filled as either a field engineer, project engineer, or systems engineer depending on candidate qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The selected candidate will support our Install team.
The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division (PIE-DO) of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facility. PIE-DO is responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program on Division projects, which includes processes, standards, training, and qualifications that are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility.
They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost‑effective, and environmentally responsible manner.
Salary: $128,000 – $215,900
The Nuclear Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the Approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as‑built configurations are verified.
Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures. At the level 3 position, leadership experience is a requirement.

Salary: $153,600 – $266,500
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the level 4 Nuclear Facilities Engineer is required to have proven leadership experience.

- Demonstrated adept knowledge of construction engineering principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure their completeness and constructability.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and national construction codes and standards.
- Experience effectively communicating engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
- Aptitude to become a certified Control Account Manager (CAM) under the Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
- Demonstrated proficiency in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
- Experience effectively communicating engineering solutions both verbally and in writing to supervisors, peers, and other organizations.
Job Requirements for Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
- Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
- Demonstrated skills in multi‑disciplinary team building and leadership.
- Proven leadership experience.
Lower level requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable.
