The LVN Lead supports the physician, medical assistants and nursing staff in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of responsibilities to include, patient care assessments, clinical related tasks and administrative duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Assists with administrative and clinical operations of the medical practice(s).
* Helps to assure that staff meets necessary certifications and licensing requirements.
* Assists with and, as necessary, performs administrative functions to include answering and handling telephone calls for patient care matters, chart preparation for clinical care and assisting with appointment scheduling.
* Assists with administrative support activities as delegated.
* Assists with controlling wage and non-wage expenses including pharmacy and medical supplies in accordance with the budgetary guidelines set by the Organization.
* Works in a collaborative role with other leads, managers and related offices or organizations.
* Greet patients and contributes to patient assessment as needed.
* Oversees and manages patient care flow, taking a leadership role within the suite.
* Prepare patients for provider by reviewing current medications in the electronic health record (EHR) as needed.
* Takes appropriate vital signs and record in EHR as needed.
* Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs.
* Assist provider in examination/procedure rooms as needed.
* Perform designated diagnostic tests as directed by provider.
* Draw and prepare designated lab work and/or specimens as directed by provider.
* Administer immunization, injections, oral or IV medications as directed by provider.
* Use PRN/Smart Talk systems to convey lab results to patients as defined by provider.
* Assist in follow-up scheduling needs.
* Answer patient calls, questions and addresses problems in timely fashion.
* Ability to assist two or more providers with clinical care.
* Handles all designated clinical care telephone interactions with provider input.
* Communicates all significant clinical findings to MD.
* Serves as an advocate for patient and utilizes appropriate resources.
* Acts as a role model in providing care; precepts new staff.
* Provide orientation and training for new clinical staff.
* Recommend areas of improvement.

Educational Requirements:

Certification from accredited school and current California LVN licensure to practice required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration Requirements:

* California LVN License Vocational Nurse
* IV/Phlebotomy Certified
* Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross

Experience:

* 3-5 years of experience in an outpatient medical setting with lead experience preferred
* Proven customer service and patient care skills
* Understanding of patient care flow and insurance concepts.
* Ability to correctly set up exam rooms/procedure rooms using sterile/aseptic technique with appropriate instruments or trays.
* Ability to prepare patient for office visit/procedures.
* Ability to correctly perform vital signs and accurately document and record significant data.
* Ability to correctly prepare lab work/specimens for pick up.
* Ability to perform designated testing and specimen collection.
* Understanding of cleaning, sterilization of autoclaving procedures.
* Ability to determine current medications that patient is using and record accurately.
* Understanding of pharmacology and medication administration including oral, SQ, IM and IV medications.
* Ability to perform and record quality care testing on designated equipment and determine areas needing improvement.
* Ability to problem solve and prioritize work assignments.
* Ability to schedule appropriate visits for phlebotomy, testing or other procedures.
* Ability to handle provider correspondence and communications as related to clinical care.
* Understanding of medical supply ordering and cost containment.
* Leadership abilities preferred.
* Strong interpersonal skills, especially in the areas of patient and physician relations.
* Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft office, IDX, or other computerized practice management
