Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles is seeking a part time Grant Writer who will be responsible for researching, creating and writing grant proposals to fund the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles’s initiatives and programs. The Grant Writer is responsible for handling all aspects of developing successful grant proposals, coordinating input across the organization as needed and responsible for all post reporting associated with funded grants.


• Write, revise and finalize grant and corporate requests for final approval of Director of Development and/or Executive Director
• Follow-up on request approvals and denials
• Maintain grant resource library
• Maintain grant/corporate request files
• Contract Management
• Responsible for reports to funders as needed outlining use of funds and outcomes of programs funded
• Maintain appropriate records of programs being funded by foundation and government grants
• Follow-up on informational requests from funders
• Accomplish fundraising budgetary goals
• Promote a positive image of the BGCMLA in the community
• Maintain ongoing communication with funding foundations, corporations and government entities
• Sources grant funds from foundations, corporate foundations, corporations, governmental agencies, and other organizations
• Coordinates research on potential grant funders and seeks to determine where potential donor interests align with needs and
       opportunities of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles
• Drafts proposals and other correspondence to solicit grant funds
• Work with funders to ensure that our submissions meet all stated requirements and guidelines
• Develops and cultivates contacts among funders and potential funding sources
• Ensures that proposals and grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion (on deadline)
• Establish a system for tracking any reporting required by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles to foundations

• Attends staff meetings and staff retreats
• Participates in cross-departmental teams and assumes the responsibilities agreed upon
• Occasional travel to branch sites for collaboration
• Assume other duties as assigned

CONTACTS AND INTERACTIONS Primary Interactions Include:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advice, and counsel.

External: Maintains contact with Board members, Club members, families, alumni, community leaders, youth serving professionals, other clubs, media contacts, vendors, consultants, organizations and others to achieve program goals and objectives, manage costs, share information, and resolve problems.

No supervisory responsibilities required.

This position reports to the VP of Development. No supervisory or fiscal accountabilities required:
Position Requirements
Bachelor,   5 to 6 Years work experience
• Expertise in business writing
• Computer and word processing skills
• Grant writing skills
• Verbal communication skills; ability to prioritize, self-motivate, think creatively, and be adaptable
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to take initiative and work under pressure with limited supervision
• Strong attention to detail required
• Flexibility to assume a workload that frequently necessitates an adjustment of priorities
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and collaboratively with staff in other divisions and departments
• Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse staff, members, donors, Board members, volunteers, consultants
       and funders

Minimum Education Requirements:
• Preferred BA in English, Writing, Communications or related field

Required Skills / Experience:
• Previous experience in business community
• At least 2 - 5 years of experience researching prospective funders and writing successful "6 Figure" grant proposals.
Required Language Skills:
  • English - Very good
