Field Engineering Responsibilities

  • Closeout
    • Redlines
    • Test Audits
    • Lessons learned
    • Warranties
    • Product Submittals
  • Redlines
    • Leads and superintendents oversee submitting changes to SoW. Redlines are completed and submitted to engineering by Field Engineers. Engineering creates an internal calendar to track required tasks and finalization dates.
  • Build‑out
    • Responsible for measurements, equipment placements, grounding and bonding. Field Engineers verify that all infrastructure is installed to design/spec and finalize redlines for closeout when changes occur.
  • Fiber
    • Use an internal tracker as key for redlines. Field Engineers update the design based on customer plans and verify all Fiber scope.
  • Copper
    • Internal tracker provides information for close‑out. Field Engineer may be the POC to ensure installations match prints, and any changes are redlined and submitted. Verification occurs before close‑out.
  • Network
    • If required, Field Engineer works with the team to configure details and takes most responsibilities for redlines.
  • RFI referencing/implementation
    • Field Engineer references RFIs on redlines as the final task before sending for QA review.
  • Test Audits
    • Field Engineers run and verify audits after projects complete. They verify cable schedules, build projects per team requirements, ensure tests match prints, create audit packages, handle re‑tests, and finalize audits based on a schedule.
  • Lessons Learned
    • Document updated throughout the build; at project end teams review a standardized template. Information is sourced from the lessons learned tracker.
  • Warranties
    • Field Engineer gathers data for warranty processing and completion; designates a team member for documentation submission.
  • Product Submittals
    • Field Engineer completes product submittals, starting with the first one after RFP issuance. Verification of BOM with POs and acquisition of product sheets is required.
  • Labels
    • Print labels for installation teams before installation. Bins organized per area, sign‑out sheet maintained, and emails sent to engineering teams for re‑prints with reasons.
  • RFIs
    • Field Engineer may be the main engineer overseeing RFIs before submission. Conforms and submits collaboratively; acceptance or rejection is formally sent to applicable teams. Design feedback becomes lessons learned.
  • Design (Shop Drawings)
    • Field Engineer may oversee design work: verify, brainstorm quality gaps, submit into BIM
      360, track revisions and hyperlinks. Focus areas: infrastructure (grounding/bonding), copper, fiber, detail sheets.
  • Compensation

    USD $26.00 per hour (minimum) – USD $32.00 per hour (maximum).

    • Must be self‑motivated, positive in approach, professional, and lead others to implement project process improvements.

    • Must have proven problem‑solving, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
    • Must diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installs.
    • Must be enthusiastic, passionate, patient and a critical thinker.
    • Must communicate with customers and have excellent customer service skills.
    • Must interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications and quality requirements.
    • Must be willing to travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
    Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
    • High School diploma or GED equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • At least 3–4 years of commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
    • Team‑oriented and collaborative.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
    • Meet Company minimum driving standards.
    • Manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

    Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.

    Minimum Years of Experience

    0–2 years.
